Small Receiving Loop - SRL

I am testing the design of the non-resonant Loop RX antenna of KK5YJ and although the construction is with provisional material, the result is as expected, it works very well.

Now I am waiting for some parts to carry out the Loop antenna project, just like the KK5YJ model, my QTH is in an urban environment and at the moment I am not going to install any preamplifier.

"The Small Vertical Loop Antenna for HF Reception"

For its correct operation, the measurements and assembly configuration must be respected.
If you try this antenna without the installation of a balun or unun, it will work, but not efficiently.

My setup is pretty similar to Matt, (provisional model):
  • Wire 2.5mm
  • Non-conductive structure
  • Non conductive mast
  • UNUN 9:1 (Isolation transformer with separate windings)
  • Choke MFJ 915
  • Coaxial cable Ecoflex 10
The antenna is connected either to an icom ic-7300 or SDRPlay RSPdx

Because i say it works:

Because in my installation there is a tower with a yagi antenna and a dipole for 40 and 80 meters and these days I have done many tests.

At the moment in 40, 80 or 160 the loop antenna receives "almost..." all radio stations, qso, local, dx, cw, ssb or ft8, just like my conventional antennas.

But there is a great advantage in the small loop in the low bands, it is the quality of the reception, at 40, 80 or 160 the noise almost disappears and the s-meter of the receiver barely goes up.
